50th Anniversary Celebration
In October 2008, Springfield Christian Church celebrated the 50th Anniversary
of the signing of our congregation's charter! Although our congregation first
worshiped together in July 1956, it wasn't until Sunday, October 26, 1958 that our
congregation formally signed a charter to create the Springfield Christian Church.
50th Anniversary
Anniversary Kick-Off Worship and Potluck Luncheon
Sunday, October 19, 2008
On October 19, 2008 we kicked off our 50th Anniversary Celebration with a special worship service following the Order of Worship
used in 1956 when our congregation first worshiped at Crestwood School. Special guests were Rev. Lari Grubbs, regional minister, and former ministers, Rev. Art Bishop, and Rev. Hal Dungan.
A potluck luncheon followed the service.
On Saturday, October 25, 2008 a catered reception was held and displays of photographs and
memorabilia were available that highlighted our first 50 years. Later we moved to the sanctuary
for our 50th Anniversary Program. The guest speaker was Rev. Dr Glenn Carson, President of the Disciples Of Christ Historical Society. Some of our charter members were present as well as a
former minister, Rev. Earl Caudill and his wife, Rev. Karlaine Caudill.
Sunday, October 26, 2008 we formally celebrated the 50th Anniversary Charter Sunday in our church service. The order of worship was the same as used on the Charter Sunday in October 1958.
Afterwards a light reception was held in Dillon Hall. Various articles commemorating the event were available to the people attending.
