Our Church
SCC belongs to the General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a mainline protestant denomination that grew out of the early American experience of westward expansion, freedom of thought, and a desire to connect with the spirit of the early Christian church. Within the denomination we are supported and encouraged in our local, regional and general ministries.
Who are "Disciples"?
- People of the Cup: We celebrate the Lord's Supper (communion) weekly. We believe the table is open to anyone who believes in Jesus as Lord.
Your are invited to share in the table with us. Here you can find the strength, power, presence and love of Jesus.
- No Creed but Christ: A phrase from early Disciple thought, "in essentials unity,
in non-essentials liberty" speaks to each person's ability to study and learn the truths of scripture. We
seek to be a place where everyone's beliefs are respected and discussed intellectually and with passions.
We come together remembering our one faith in Jesus Christ and require no other profession or test.
- Baptism: We practice full immersion to celebrate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. If you transfer your membership from any other church, your baptism is accepted here.
- Mission: Serving those beyond our faith community is a key element of Jusus' teachings and our denomination.
We are called to be God's hands and feet, eyes and ears, mouth and heart in this world.
- Congregationally Governed: Members of SCC make all decisions for our church—calling a minister, distribution of funds for mission, church leadership, workship, etc.
- Spiritual Journey and Growth: We encourage individual Christian growth and maturation, within the confines of the community at large. We support individual spiritual growth within the community. We encourage you to think, ask questions, be in conversation, to teach and to be taught.
- Ecumenical: Last but not least, we seek to be a place that celebrates the spiritual journey of all God's creation. We offer opportunitites to serve and be in dialogue with God's whole community.
