Outreach
Our Local Outreach efforts focus on specific ministries briefly outlined below. If you have any questions about these outreach programs, please call the church office at: (703) 354-4994.
ECHO
(Ecumenical Community for Helping Others)
At the ECHO Warehouse, needed items are distributed to community residents and vital services are provided. SCC donates food, clothing, other items, and volunteer hours. If you have items to be donated to ECHO, call 703-569-9160 to find out from the ECHO staff the scheduled drop-off times.
Bren Mar Park Elementary School
Twice annually we donate school supplies for the students. Also, we collect needed clothing for students and, working with the school counselor, provide other emergency assistance.
Rebuilding Together
(previously known as: Christmas In April)
In an attempt to be involved with more of the local community, SCC supports the renovation and repair of homes sponsored on the last Saturday of April by the "Christmas In April" Project. Additionally, we are beginning to be involved in year-round repair work.
Adopt-a-Highway Program
Quarterly, volunteers from SCC collect and bag trash from Industrial Road (near the church) through the program sponsored by VDOT.
General Support to Homeless Shelters
Support of area shelters is not only through the donation of money and basic supplies. We are also involved with their residents by providing basic clothing, and by cooking and serving special meals to shelters in Northern Virginia.
Casseroles to Downtown Shelter
Casseroles are made and delivered each month to the Bethany House Women's Shelter in D.C.
Community Food Baskets
Food baskets are made up and delivered to needy community families.
Salvation Army Toys
Each December we collect toys for distribution by the Salvation Army.
Homeless Resettlement
In conjunction with Fairfax county agencies, we provide support to families, some financial backing and some daily assistance, when needed.
