What to Expect
SCC adopted a slogan that characterizes who we are as a community of faith:
Where Hearts & Intellect Meet In Christ
Fellowship: The word Hearts is deliberately plural. We are a group of people come together for fellowship. That means mutual support, comfort, caring, activity, and action. This is about being together in our faith journeys. This is about being a community and sometimes family. The African saying that “It takes a village to raise a child” popular in the prior decade is not only applicable to our children, but to each of us as spiritual sojourners as we mature in our faith and spiritual relationships with God.
Freedom to Think: This idea is captured in the word Intellect and is a cornerstone of Disciples of Christ. Locking down a single understanding and claiming to understand all Christian truths and righteous pathway is not possible, not credible, and not authentic.
Mission: The phrase meet in Christ points toward our common mission as we come together in Christ to live in a way that cares for one another, cares for our environment, loves the unloved, and seeks justice. We are not chartered as a club, we come together in a mission directed by Jesus…to bring about the kingdom of heaven, in our time and for our world.
